Van Safety Information

As you all may be aware, the passenger limit for the large vans was changed from 12-15 passengers to 8 passengers including the driver. This policy was changed because of the risk of roll-over in certain conditions. Additionally Purdue University West Lafayette is currently requiring all who rent a van to review a training tutorial and sign the corresponding Passenger Van Agreement [PDF] prior to driving the van. IPFW requires the same procedure for our 12 and 15 passenger van fleet. All employees who use the 12 and 15 passenger vans will need to review Purdue University's Van Training Tutorial found in the links section at the bottom of this page.

After this is done, print a copy of the Passenger Van Agreement [PDF] found in the links section below, sign this form, and keep the original with your department. A copy of the form can be used for future van reservations. You can either mail your Passenger Van Agreement copy along with your Transportation Form 1, or bring both with you to the Physical Plant office (Physical Plant, Room 108) when you pick up the keys for the van.

Training Instructions

  • Access the 20 minute power point/video presentation titled Vehicle Training and follow the instructions.
  • After completing the tutorial, go to the Passenger Van Agreement form [PDF].
  • This form must be printed, signed and presented to the Physical Plant staff member at the time the van is checked out. We cannot release the van(s) unless we have the signed Passenger Van Agreement form [PDF].
  • No one is allowed to drive a university 12 or 15 passenger fleet van unless they have successfully completed the van training tutorial and have turned in their signed Passenger Van Agreement.
